It’s been a whole eight days since my last post.  Last week Thursday we heard about a missing aircraft and it wasn’t long before our worry turned to grief when the aircraft was found crashed with no survivors.  The aircraft was from one of our sister mission aviation orgs out here.  The pilot was a man who’d flown here for nearly 24 years.  He was a man who showed the love of Christ to all around him.  Yesterday was the funeral and approximately 1,000 people attended to say good-bye to this faithful servant.  After a beautiful service, he was buried in the cemetary located just down the hill from the international school here in Sentani.

The sudden death of a man known and loved by so many has such a dramatic effect on the community.  Many of the people who attended the funeral were nationals whose lives had been touched by him.  As well, this is the second fatal accident in as many weeks in the interior here.  No pilot is immune to tragedy like that.  Please pray for our pilots that they will find peace in God’s promises and know that He is in control at all times.  Please also remember the wife and two children (both older) of the pilot in your prayers.
