Life on the Hill…

There’s a soccer tournament going on up here on the hill again.  The soccer field is across the road from our house so we have a bit of a bird’s eye view of the proceedings.  This latest tournament started off with a bakar batu (baking rocks).  This is where a pig is killed and cooked in the ground together with vegetables using super hot rocks.  This is a traditional feast of the mountain folks of the interior.  Pigs are valued at about 10 million rupiah each.  This particular feast, it appears, was paid for by someone hoping to get voted in in the next election….  yeah…
