Bits and Bites….

Yokben has worked for us for around 4 years.  He’s been a faithful and hard working guy.  He is our guard and our gardener.  We are so thankful for how hard he works for us.  He’s been going to University for a few years now taking a music program.  In January he was supposed to start his practicum.  However, Yokben was born with a deformed foot which prevents him from wearing shoes.  He has in fact never worn shoes in his life.  The head of the school said that in order for him to complete his practicum he must wear shoes.  So we started brainstorming as to what we could do to help.  I brought him to an orthopaedic surgeon who basically said all he could do was cut off the stump and make a fake foot.  Not a practical solution as he can walk fine right now.  So we came up with another solution.  Yokben and I went to the mall and bought him a right fine pair of black Reebok runners.  I brought the shoes to the shoe repair guys but they all said they could not cut the shoe smaller and sew it up.  Then Hugo and one of his national guys brainstormed and came up with a great solution.  They filled the front of the shoe with some kind of filler and then got some straps and velcro and sewed them on in such a way that Yokben can wrap them around his ankle and keep the shoe from coming off.  He’s pretty pumped about his new foot wear.  I did have to do a little shoe lace tying tutorial though…
