Grand Opening…

A few weeks ago (the internet has not been cooperative with me) I went to the grand opening of a new campus here in Sentani.  This campus is to be used for education, a major priority if Papua is to move forward.  Sekolah Papua Harapan is going to be using a part of this new campus for their dorm students and transition students.  The official opening ceremony was organized by the gov’t agency who built the campus.  There was a cool dancing/singing group that performed traditional music and dance.  The children of SPH did some singing, dancing and a puppet show.  All this happened after the dignitaries (the guys with flowers around their necks) arrived.  And there were some bigwigs there!  The governor of Papua, the local district head, and some people from the education sector.  (not really sure who they were exactly)  There was a big tent set up, thankfully.  First we needed it to stay out of the hot sun and then later it rained.  After the ceremony was finished, the important people (like me (snort)) got to eat lunch with the bigwigs while everyone else was given a boxed lunch.  R was there with her daughter and she was one of the girls performing in the dance.  She looks so grown up!
