I tried to post this post last week already and due to our internet being what it is, that didn’t work out so well so I’ll try again…
Last Sunday our church celebrated its 10th birthday. Being that our home has a functioning washroom, running water, a roof that doesn’t leak etc… It was decided that we would have our celebratory lunch in our home and to streamline things even further, we decided to have the service here too.
We had a potluck lunch following the service involving the usual foods, rice, krupuk, chicken, kangkung (aka ditch weed) cooked with papaya flowers, some kind of dried fish dish, sambal, cake, watermelon, and I barbequed mackerel (a nice white meat fish). Yum! The kids also enjoyed playing on our swings and basketball pad.
It’s always fun to do these things with our church. It is always interesting to note the cultural differences as well. In our home country we may have had coffee and cake after the meal and continued chatting. Here we put out the cake with the meal, drink pop and as soon as it looks like everyone is done eating, the clean-up starts (divvy up the leftovers) and people go home.
