OE

Tomorrow Mikah and Christiaan leave for OE (Outdoor Education).  For Christiaan it is his first time going on OE and he’s kinda nervous.  This is Mikah’s third time and she’s now kind of a leader which comes with its own challenges for her.  OE is when the entire high school plus chaperones/speakers descend on an interior village for nearly two weeks.  They have been broken up into groups with each group having an adult leader and a good mix of kids of all grades.  Each group has to do projects in the village and HIV/Aids awareness presentations along with kids club.  The kids will all be sleeping in simple buildings and using local toilets and bathing in the river (hopefully at least a few times…).  They will also be making overnight trips to nearby villages.  The village they will be based out of is located in the mountains, so they will enjoy the cooler temperatures. I have to admit, I’m just a little jealous of that!  So tonight we are praying for good weather for tomorrow morning so that the flights in can be safe and smooth!  The kids will all be flying on MAF and Wycliffe planes.  Lord willing when they all arrive safely, we will then pray for good health and that the kids will be able to make connections with the people in spite of the language barrier.  Most of the local people do not speak Indonesian never mind English.  Just recently there have been a lot of people falling ill and even dying of measles in that particular area.  In fact there has been a strange illness making its way through other interior regions and many people have died.  There have been groups of doctors going in trying to figure out what the illness is but at this point they aren’t really sure.  Please pray that they will be able to figure out what the illness is and how to help those most at risk.
